According to a report of McKinsey called “The Vanishing Middle Market”, markets are polarizing and therefore, all areas are affected: the demands of consumers, business needs, new professionals needed, the new needs training, etc. For my part, I agree with the results obtained and is also related to the concept of “Talentismo” which I’ve been commenting on other occasions.
He speaks of three types of markets and the new configuration of consumer demand. In recent decades, he has had great success the “Middle-Market”, i.e. that market characterized by selling products and services with average performance, with an average price and for an average customer. Now, that market is shrinking and demands are polarizing to extremes, i.e. are migrating to “High-End Market” (characterized by complex products and services for customers with high needs), or goes to “Low- End Market “(characterized by products and services simple and few benefits for customers with low needs).
Therefore, changing consumer demands, needs and business strategies are changed and, finally, the types of professionals who need business and training new needs arise. What does this mean for professionals? We have 3 options:
Having seen all this, I say you’re on alert. Not do anything about it can be very expensive. They say that the extremes are not good, but in this case an exception from a business point of view and work. Staying in the middle does not look good. In my opinion, the next few years will lead the “High-End”, as they are able to solve new challenges in companies (especially those with a strong personal brand and if you are influential).
Therefore, if measures to be a specialist in something and excellent is taken, besides having a brutal and a similar profile competition, the threat (increasing) will probably have a large number of fellows too well prepared (which unfortunately for lack of opportunities, they have no other more suitable to their qualifications) because, software and other technologies that replace labor (for example, Amazon is already using “messengers drones” or Google is already in the process of manufacturing robots).
