There are increasing challenges to the protection of computer software, and as the likes of malware get more sophisticated, endpoint security must likewise advance. Considering such products have traditionally been the focus of specific antivirus providers, could the tech giant Dell offer a more effective solution?
Outdated Approaches to Security
Up until recently, add-on antivirus and malware programs like McAfee and Symantec were relied upon to scan, detect and deal with threats to our computers. Detecting threats by picking up the “signature” is outdated because the same malware can be present but modified to fly under the radar. Alternative methods often pick up a threat only after infection has occurred. These approaches are no longer adequate for the multi-faceted and complex attacks that can now infiltrate systems and networks. The ransomware WannaCry hit the news in 2017 as the malicious software attack crippled companies, hospitals and services across the globe, including Britain’s NHS.
AI technology has been gradually implemented in the detection of unique malware codes, such as that from the provider Cylance. An algorithm analyses the millions of different elements in programs and rates their threat potential, blocking those that are suspicious. In addition, companies such as Intel are adapting chips to feature an element that acts as a bulletproof barrier to virus attacks.
With the field of endpoint security becoming more valuable and competitive than ever before, who is able to offer the most reliable, forward-thinking solution when it comes to Endpoint Security Management?
The Driving Force Behind Dell’s Security Suite
To add to its cache of tools and experience, Dell have collaborated with the newer generation of endpoint security management providers. They’ve also incorporated technology acquired from EMC and procured other companies, including Credent. They are proposing one bundle of elements, neatly combined for integrated and seamless usage. This will include DRM/encryption, a host-based firewall and a console to conclude SecureID, Cylance and VMWare/AirWatch.
In addition, an API will enable it to work alongside System Centre by Microsoft, allowing the Dell security solutions to be managed from this base if desired. To cater to the needs of larger businesses, Dell will offer consultancy in its security software to enable the suite to be customised to specific needs. Their suite will also be more adaptable and widely applicable across devices and not restricted to Dell hardware.
