The Grease Contractors Association is a non-profit British Water-administered scheme. It was created to be a voice of specifiers, installers and maintainers of grease management systems and encourage experienced professionals to do what’s best for the industry.
Grease in our wastewater can be detrimental to sewage networks, stopping them from working properly, which would be a massive problem. Grease management is now mandated by Section 3 of the Water Industry Act 1991 and the water companies, along with landlords, local government and the Environment Agency, now have the power to bring criminal proceedings against any company that disrupts the sewer network.
The Grease Contractors Association develops and encourages good standards and will help with the process of researching and developing products and services that will improve the industry. It provides a networking forum for professionals from all over the country to connect and share ideas and thoughts.
The British Standard for Grease Separators listed what equipment can generate this FOG (Fats, Oils and Grease), and this includes:
– Dishwashers
– Pre-rinse sinks
– Fixed roasting-tin
– Tilting roasting-tin
– Pot wash Sinks
– Vegetable washers
– Scrapers
– High-pressure cleaners
– Steam ovens
– Combi ovens
– Wok ranges
– Brat pans
The Grease Contractors Association wants to educate consumers and stakeholders about their role in FOG reduction and how they can do it. They recommend three products that can help do this, which are:
– Stainless Steel Grease Traps, such as those from https://www.ukgreasetrapsdirect.co.uk/stainless-steel-grease-traps, which will physically trap the FOG within them and let the clean wastewater pass through.
– Grease removal units that do the same as grease traps but additionally remove food debris and the FOG into separate containers to be disposed of easily.
– Dosing systems that have a biological drainage system designed to break down the FOG.
The Grease Contractors Association has two membership types, and these are:
GCA Certified Contractor
The certified contractor membership is available for companies and organisations that specify, install, supply and maintain grease management systems. Contractors will be put through a bi-annual audit to make sure they are suitable for the membership.
GCA Supporter Membership
The supporter membership is available to other companies and organisations that are involved in the grease management industry.
